Phil is a senior engineering leader who has spent over 20 years in leadership roles within Roll-Royce plc, helping develop, lead and implement engineerig and leadership strategies.
Until may 2024 he was 'Head of Experimental Engineering’ for the civil aerospace business. Acting as the “Chief Engineer” for all Rolls-Royce was technically accountable for the civil aerospace measurement and test capability. Capabilities ranging from the new ‘80 Bed test facility’ in Derby, mechanical component test and vibration centre near Berlin, full engine noise testing at NASA Stennis Louisiana, to the measurement and control systems supporting our Boeing 747 Flying Test Bed. Leading the measurement and test strategy for R&D and production tests and having been the driving force behind our SCADA signal conditioning and data acquisition improvements over the last decade.
Phil joined Rolls-Royce from school as an apprentice Instrument Mechanic and spent over 36 years in the business, either in measurement and test or control systems as an Engineer, Quality and business improvement manager or in senior leadership. Previous roles have included ‘Global Chief of Measurement’, ‘Head of Test Measurement’, ‘Head of Tooling’ , ‘Business Improvement Manager’ and 'Blackbelt in business improvements and lean'. Phil is just as passionate about developing people as well as methods, capabilities, and supply chains.
Phil is a Fellow of the Institute of Measurement & Control, Charted Engineer, has an Open University MBA and is a Bachelor of Engineering in Electronics.
Phil is married to Helen (who acts as his personal assistant) and they have two grown up sons. In his spare time loves cycling and supporting the local sports club.
